Chief Carney was hired at Midway Fire Rescue in January 2000 after serving in the United States Airforce as a Firefighter. Battalion Chief Carney rose through the ranks quickly and hired as A-Shift Battalion Chief in early June 2017. Chief Carney held the Fire Service, Midway Fire Rescue and Family to the highest regard.

Chief Carney was part of the apparatus committee and a charter member of Midway Professional Firefighters Association, Local 3617.

Battalion Chief was battling an aggressive, stage 4, melanoma cancer in which he was diagnosed of in June 2017. Chief Carney passed away in the early morning of October 19th, 2017.
While it hurts, our hearts let’s take some relief by knowing that his pain and struggles are over and he is truly in a better place.

Chief Carney's wife Lillian (Mrs. Carney) spoke of faith, hope, and love. Faith that there is a greater plan and this is part of it, hope for a better future, and love for each other. BC Carney gave us very direct instructions in a letter to “make sure you are jumping out of your socks to help each other”.

The International Firefighters Association presented Chief Carney's family with the Line Of Duty Death (LODD) Memorial Medal to his wife and daughter at a small ceremony. BC Carney will also be memorialized on the IAFF Fallen Firefighter Memorial Wall in Colorado. BC Carney’s name will be added in September 2018.

Chief Carney's Last Words, "Let's Go Ladies!"
On Sunday evening, March 17th, 2019, Daniel Roy's life changed forever. Firefighter Daniel Roy was involved in a serious motorcycle accident while riding on Highway 17 in Myrtle Beach.

Firefighter Daniel Roy has been in the Grand Strand as a firefighter with Midway Fire Rescue for a little over 2 years. He has been a great asset to the team on C-Shift and constantly working to make himself and the shift better. For the past year, Firefighter Daniel Roy has been attending paramedic school and in May will be finished. Firefighter Roy was a member with the Midway Professional Firefighters Association, Local 3617.

A week later, Roy passed away from injuries sustained from the accident. A service for Firefighter Roy followed the next day in Pawleys Island with Firefighters, Family and Friends. Another Service was done in Georgia, where his family returned Firefighter Danial Roy home.
​
A few days after, Daniel Roy's passing, the paramedic program honored Daniel Roy's Family with a completion of Paramedic School as he was set to receive in May 2019.
